At Blue Sky Animal Hospital, we offer reproductive services designed to support responsible breeding programs from pre-breeding planning through pregnancy and delivery. Whether you need semen collection and shipping, breeding timing, artificial insemination, pregnancy monitoring, or scheduled C-sections, our team provides practical, medically grounded support for breeders who want precision, preparation, and strong communication throughout the process.
Services Our reproductive services include:
Semen Collection and Shipping
Collection and shipment of semen for breeding programs, helping coordinate with outside facilities and optimize timing when natural breeding is not practical. Ideal for long-distance pairings and flexible breeding plans.
Semen Evaluation
Assessment of key fertility factors to support breeding soundness. Helps determine reproductive health and whether additional management or intervention may be needed.
Transcervical Insemination (TCI)
An advanced, non-surgical insemination method that allows precise breeding without surgical access. Useful when timing, semen type, or logistics require a more controlled approach.
Artificial Insemination
A structured breeding method that improves control over timing, semen handling, and logistics. Often used as part of a comprehensive reproductive plan.
Progesterone Testing
A critical tool in breeding management used to identify the optimal breeding window, estimate ovulation timing, and improve accuracy for due-date planning.
Ultrasound and Radiology
Ultrasound confirms pregnancy and monitors development, while radiology helps assess litter size and staging later in gestation. Together, they support informed pregnancy and delivery planning.
Scheduled C-Sections
Planned cesarean delivery for selected pregnancies where controlled timing and safety are essential. Timing is guided by progesterone trends and ovulation-based breeding data.
OFA Hips and Elbows
Radiographic screening for joint health in breeding dogs. Official OFA certification requires dogs to be at least 24 months old, though preliminary evaluations can be done earlier. Timing should consider heat cycles and weaning due to hormonal effects on joint laxity.
OFA Thyroid
Thyroid screening to support responsible breeding and detect conditions such as autoimmune thyroiditis. OFA certification begins at 12 months for normal results, with recommended follow-up testing as thyroid status may change over time.
Reproduction Canine Reproductive Services
Blue Sky Animal Hospital provides comprehensive canine reproductive services for responsible breeders and pet owners. Our experienced veterinary team offers individualized guidance throughout the breeding process, from cycle timing and insemination to pregnancy confirmation and prenatal monitoring.
Our reproductive services may include progesterone testing, vaginal cytology, semen collection and evaluation, fresh or chilled semen preparation and shipping, artificial insemination, transcervical insemination commonly known as TCI, pregnancy ultrasound, and late-term radiographs to help estimate litter size.
Because reproductive timing is critical, appointments and testing schedules are based on each patient’s individual cycle and breeding plan. Some services require advance coordination, outside laboratory testing, or specific scheduling. Please contact our team early in your dog’s heat cycle so we can review your goals, discuss available services, and develop an appropriate plan.
Service availability, timing, and reproductive outcomes cannot be guaranteed. All services and procedures are performed only when medically appropriate and in accordance with the veterinarian’s professional judgment.
About us Experienced Guidance in Canine Reproduction
Dr. Michelle Wiberg joined Blue Sky Animal Hospital in 2022, bringing more than a decade of veterinary and reproductive experience to our team. Before joining Blue Sky, she practiced primarily as an equine veterinarian, where she developed extensive experience in reproductive medicine and breeding management.
Her involvement in canine reproduction began long before veterinary school. Dr. Wiberg grew up in a family that bred, raised, and showed Lhasa Apsos. She and her husband later became involved with German Shorthaired Pointers and established their own breeding program in 2016. Their dogs have competed in conformation, performance, and hunting events.
Dr. Wiberg combines her professional reproductive experience with a breeder’s practical understanding of cycle timing, breeding decisions, pregnancy monitoring, and the importance of producing healthy dogs. She provides thoughtful, individualized guidance to breeders throughout the reproductive process.
Reproduction Reproduction Services
Blue Sky Animal Hospital provides reproductive services for breeders who want thoughtful planning, precise timing, and dependable veterinary support throughout the breeding process. From semen collection and evaluation to insemination, pregnancy monitoring, and scheduled cesarean delivery, our goal is to help you make informed decisions at every step. We offer semen collection and shipping, semen evaluation, transcervical insemination, artificial insemination, progesterone testing, ultrasound, radiology, scheduled C-sections, and OFA screening for hips, elbows, and thyroid. These services are commonly used in breeding soundness planning, ovulation timing, pregnancy confirmation, litter assessment, and responsible genetic health screening. Successful reproductive management depends heavily on timing. Progesterone testing helps narrow the breeding window and improves planning for breeding and delivery. Pregnancy imaging helps confirm and monitor gestation, while late-stage planning can support better decision-making around whelping and elective cesarean timing when indicated.
